It was about 8:30 at night, long after my employees had left the office, when I got "The Call".

Lately, it seemed like I was getting two or three of these calls a week.  

This time it was a high school teacher in the western suburbs of Chicago, perhaps in his early 30s.  He found my business information in an online directory and wanted to know if I could give him a title search (that's a review of the basic information that's listed in the county records) on six different properties. 

"Sure, my price is $50 each, and I can get the information to you in a few days."  I replied.

Silence.

After the pause, he explained that he had taken a class on foreclosures, and found some interesting properties listed in his neighborhood.  He knew he'd need to find out more information before he pursued them.  But he also knew, at $50 a pop, he'd never be able to create the type of business he wanted.  Was there anything he could do? 

Well, yes. I explained that he could go down to the county himself and try to do the research.  But I knew that it was like traveling through the Brazilian rainforest without a guide: an overwhelming task for anyone without an expert to lead them.
