County Locator
A good county locator can address an issue that often comes up while searching property information: lack of a county locator. Let's say you've found a good property to investigate and you have the address but aren't sure what county the property is located in. How do you find out? There are several tools that you can use which I will describe here.
As an example, there is a city here in Illinois called Aurora. It's a big town. So big that there a total of five possible counties that the property could be located in! Which one is it in? This is very helpful to know so that you don't waste your time searching in the wrong county at first, which is something I have done more times than I care to count over the years.
TIP: Always find out the correct county of your property before you begin your search!
Here are many different ways to find out the possible counties of a property. Find which site is the most comfortable for you to use.
Google Area/Zip Code Lookup
NACo County Locator
I enjoy this search program because it offers for different ways to search for information. You can search by city or by zip code to find a county. In addition, it also has an option to search for all cities within a county, and an option to search for all cities within a state. Pretty handy!
NETRonline County Lookup
This program doesn't have as many options as the NACo program. But NETRonline has a lot of other great features so if you use it for other things (such as finding county websites) it would make sense to just use this program and have everything at one website.
US Census Bureau State and County Quickfacts
Straight and to the point, a quick and easy program!
I hope that you will find these tips helpful for your searching endeavors.
